There's a moment every year that doesn't arrive with a date. It arrives with a feeling.
The light softens a bit earlier than you'd expect. Evenings stretch out differently. Quieter. More golden.
I call this moment CODE ORANGE.
It's the threshold where everything starts turning warmer and slower, weeks before the season officially changes. And with it comes something I look forward to every year: Pumpkin Season.
What CODE ORANGE actually means
It's the first evening you reach for a blanket without thinking about it. The first time you close the windows a little earlier. The first time a warm, spiced scent feels better than anything fresh or floral.
It's cosiness creeping back in before you've noticed it's happened.
The beginning of Pumpkin Season
At the centre of it all is Pumpkin & Clove. Bright, spiced, and glowing with that warm orange energy, like golden hour light spilling across a kitchen table.
Pumpkin Season doesn't stop there though. It unfolds slowly over the next few weeks.
Some things I look forward to once it starts:
Candles lit earlier in the evening, curtains drawn a little sooner, that softer kind of light living inside the house.
Lighting a candle not just for the scent, but for the atmosphere. For slowing down and marking the end of the day.
Coffee that lasts longer. Baking that becomes part of the rhythm again.
Soft knits, heavier blankets, homes that feel layered again.
The scents of CODE ORANGE
As the season shifts, the candles that define it start coming back too.
Pumpkin & Clove, the first signal that warmth is returning. Cinnamon & Demerara, all golden sweetness and spice. Maple Pecan Danish, baked comfort and café mornings. Banana Bread, the kind of nostalgic warmth that only comes from something baking in the oven.
These aren't just autumn scents to me. They're what the season feels like, bottled.
Summer isn't over. It's just loosening its grip a little. CODE ORANGE is the bit where both exist at once, warm afternoons and cool evenings, sunlight and candlelight.
It's already started.
